Montana Singapore (Media Invite)

Montana Singapore recently underwent a minor refurbishment. The now defunct doughnut space had been taken out and converted to more seating with windows letting in natural light.

The menu has also been revamped boasting of new mains and new desserts.

Below is the brand new space of the wine bar, Anarchy.

1. Crab burger with Yuzu slaw ($24++)

A patty with a mix of crab and seafood. Nicely seasoned. Accompanied by tangy yuzu slaw, the citrussy component helps to tone the heaviness of the seafood. Quite a compact burger but a tummy filler. But some might find the price a little on the high side.

2. Peking Chicken confit with waffles ($16.50++)

Instead of the common duck confit, Montana replaced it with chicken leg. Sous vide in oil and roasted after with 5-spice marinade. The skin was crisp and flesh was flaky and tender. A plum sauce dip for acidity which balanced off the various spices.

3. Miso Brown Butter Linguine

Similar to carbonara, this is a simple meatless pasta with cherry tomatoes. Alittle creamy but had quite a flavorful smoky finish. Suitable for vegetarians or those who crave for a quick and easy meal.

4. Bangers and Mash ($18)

A fusion of east meets west. Century egg blended in with the mash which was abit grainy.  Sausages were drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette and I do find it a tinge salty. A dish which some have to get used to.

5. Coffee Kaya Coconut Freakcake ($14.80)_

Eating this made me go back to the good ole days where the simple pleasure was eating the biscuit gems.

Smoky Nutella Freakcake

I do love chocolate. This is my preferred freakcake between the two. The kaya freakcake was too sweet for me as it was overpowered by kaya cream whereas the nutella was more spongy and only a thin layer of cream was spread in between layers. But if you have sweet sweet tooth, this would be up your alley.

6. Regular coconut cold brew ($6.80)

The ice ball is actually coconut infused. When it melts, it blends in with the espresso. The finish will be a tinge of coffee and a light coconut aftertone. A taste for the discerning palate.

This newly revamped menu was a bold move by Ying. The mix of east west ingredients plus the re-introduction of the childhood favorites was brilliant and unique. It looks like an exciting menu for the young and the young at heart or those who wants colourful flavors dancing on their palates.

This was a media invite. Thank you Ying and team for hosting us.
